Patients who have not had treatment before often have questions about acupuncture, some of which are answered here:
l.
Is Acupuncture safe? Your practitioner, Liz Cook, is a member of the British Acupuncture Council (BAcC) and observes their code of practice on hygiene and safety standards. Only single use disposable needles are used in this practice.
2.
Will it hurt? When the needles (which are extremely fine) are inserted, a sensation is sometimes felt which has often been described as "tingling", "numbness", or a "dull ache". This lasts only for a second or so and is rarely unacceptable.
3.
How many treatments will I need? Sometimes the effects are dramatic, and recent or acute conditions may clear up in 3 or 4 sessions or even less. However chronic problems will need more time to be dealt with at a deeper level. As with any therapy, the response and success can vary from individual to individual.
4.
Should I tell my doctor I am having acupuncture? If you are having treatment from your doctor it is a good idea to tell him that you are planning to have acupuncture.
